I figure I belong here not only because I am against the Atkins diet (hense anti atkins-diet], but I also kind of consider myself to be on the anti-atkins diet.

It's not that I make a point everywhere I go to eat high-carb meals or anything. I just flat-out refuse, as a matter of principle, to eat anything specifically advertised as low-carb or atkins-friendly.

Sure, I may have gone into the restaurant planning on having a nice healthy salad, but what's this? It's in the Atkins-Friendly section of the menu?

Damn it all to hell, I guess I'll have to have the pasta instead. And could I have a side of mashed potatoes?

I do the same, I go out of my way NOT to order anything or buy anything labeled lowcarb or Atkins friendly. I make scenes in TGIF!

I'd comment with a big hearty "here, here" but I'm too busy stuffing my face with a bagel!

Thanks.

I sent that to a friend of mine who is just utterly convinced that Atkins is a godsend.

Actually, he weighs about 550...(he might be down to 500) so for him, it might be, especially in those first few months like the article mentioned, but it's certainly not something most people need to stay on.

""They start to suffer headaches, muscle cramps and diarrhoea. This is consistent with a carbohydrate deficiency. They simply do not get enough carbohydrate to supply the tissues with blood sugar. That is why the organs start to malfunction."

The only problem with this article is that every assertion made by the "experts" has never been backed up, especially where they state there is organ malfunction...wtf? Talk about pulling things out of one's arse.

p.s. that's not a "research" article...there are no studies even quoted!

Well, I don't go to the extreme of provoking anyone.

I don't like the diet at all (hi, that's why I'm here) and I really don't like the faddish aspects of it. Much less the way people only hear "wow! I can eat all the bacon and sausage I want!? ROCK!"

However, if I see something that is advertised as "low-carb" or "atkins friendly", and it sounds like something I would eat...I'll eat it.

I am trying to lose some weight, and so I'm trying to cut calories. As a result, I tried some of the "low carb" milk (which actually wasn't so bad), but the fat content in it will keep me from doing it again. I do drink an excessive amount of soda, and for some bizarre reason, all of the artificial sweeteners bother me in one way or the other, so diet drinks are out, but (again with that bizaare reasoning), the "C2" and "Pepsi Edge" don't bother me, so I drink those.

But HOLY COW. Have you looked at the "nutritional information" for the "low carb" chocolates?!?! EEP! Pass me a Hershey's Special Dark *any* day! *faint*

But C2 and Pepsi Edge *do* have artificial sweeteners. Does the high fructose corn syrup maybe moderate the effect of the nutrasweet for you?

Possibly, though I hadn't thought of that as a reason.

I think it's Sucralose (splenda?), though, but yeah, I knew they had the artificials.

And high fructose corn syrup...holy smokes. They put that garbage in EVERYTHING these days (like, say, *bread*)

I think that Pepsi just uses splenda/sucralose, but Coke2 does have nutrasweet (evil syrup of Satan). I react badly to both nutrasweet and HFCS, so I can't imagine anything driving me to drink C2.

Have you tried Diet RC? I've just started seeing it in cans. It ONLY uses splenda, so there's no aftertaste or ill stomach effects like I've gotten with aspartame

You mean you won't spend an extra dollar on salad dressing (about 35% of the cost) because it says low carb? They lowered it from the insanely high 1g to .5! It's incredible
